'Snow White' release battle heats up!

It seems like a duel has broken out between Relativity Media and Universal over which studio will get their Snow White film out to the public first. Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" will star Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, and it was originally slated for a December 2012 release.

However, after Relativity Media's announcement of "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White" project, which is set to star Julia Roberts and Armie Hammer, the two studios have been pushing up their release dates in order to get their Snow White to the big screen first.

After Universal pushed their film from its December release up to June 1, 2012, Relativity countered by bumping their project up to March 16, giving it a two-month lead. This has put Universal in a tight spot because shooting isn't scheduled until the end of summer and because Hemsworth is tied up with Marvel's "The Avengers."

If they want to best Relativity, Universal would have to put themselves in a tough spot in which they would only have a 7-to-8-month turnaround time. Even though the films are rumored to be very different, everyone seems to know that getting there first is crucial.

We will keep you updated on this duel as it progresses.
