Box Office: 'Just Go With It' beats Bieber?

Just Go With It tops box office

It's pretty safe to say that this weekend's battle at the North American box office is too close to call. That said, based on estimates, Adam Sandler's comedy "Just Go With It" managed to beat "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" by less than $1 million. "Just Go With It" brought in $31 million for the top spot.

Sony's comedy, which also stars Jennifer Aniston, earned an average of $8,737 per theater at 3,548 locations. Following with $30.2 million was the Bieber concert flick, which pulled an average of $9,746 per location at 3,105 sites. The real winner will be crowned once actuals roll around in the next day or so.

Meanwhile, new entry "Gnomeo and Juliet" debuted in third place with a solid $25.5 million. The animated tale also managed to beat Kevin Macdonald's new adventure "The Eagle," which picked up a rather disappointing $8.5 million at No. 4. That film stars Channing Tatum as a young Roman solider fighting for honor.

Last week's box office champ "The Roommate" dropped to fifth place with weekend earnings of $8.4 million, lifting its total haul to $26 million. "The King's Speech" followed at No. 6 with $7.4 million, reaching a cumulative gross of $93.8 million (nice job for a flick produced on a $15 million budget).

Moving further down the chart, "No Strings Attached" collected $5.6 million, enough for seventh place. The comedy with Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher brought its cume to $59.8 million. At No. 8, "Sanctum" bagged $5.1 million for a total gross of $17.5 million.

"True Grit" wrapped the weekend with $3.7 million ($160.3 million total) at No. 9, while "The Green Hornet" took a big dive and landed at No. 10 with a weekend gross of $3.6 million and a cumulative of $92.3 million.

I'll post an entry about actuals as soon as they are released.
