Natalie Portman in Alfonso Cuaron's 'Gravity'?

Natalie Portman

I hear Natalie Portman's performance in "Black Swan" is really powerful, and I guess that's the reason she's being courted by Warner Bros. right now. The studio wants her to play the lead in "Gravity."

Risky Business reports Alfonso Cuarón, who will direct "Gravity," has received permission to offer Portman the lead role without screen tests. She's supposed to check out the script and decide shortly.

"Gravity" is a 3D adventure focusing on a woman stuck on a space station. Robert Downey Jr. will play a supporting character. Angelina Jolie was on board for the lead, but she recently dropped out.

As for Portman, she's also got "Your Highness" and "Thor" coming out soon. Alfonso Cuarón also helmed "Children of Men," "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" and "Y tu mamá también."
