Patton Oswalt boards 'Young Adult'

Jason Reitman ("Up in the Air") is set to direct Diablo Cody's new script "Young Adult" for Mandate, and actors Patton Oswalt and Patrick Wilson are joining the project, which also stars Charlize Theron.

The Hollywood Reporter says the story follows a divorced, young-adult fiction writer (Theron) who heads back to a small Minnesota town to chase a former boyfriend. Problem is he and his wife just had a baby.

Patton is set to play a dude who once had a crush on Theron's character. Wilson plays the ex-boyfriend. Oswalt appears on "United States of Tara," and Wilson recently starred in "The Switch" and "The A-Team."

These things happen, of course. I'm sure it will make a fun movie. But isn't the real challenge nowdays to write an engaging story about someone who is mature as a young person and wanting more out of life than the usual?
