'Inception' leads Friday box office with
Christopher Nolan's brilliant sci-fi thriller "Inception" kicked off its theatrical run with a strong $21.6 million at the North American box office Friday, according to estimates. The film is playing at 3,792 locations.
"Inception" scored a solid daily average of $5,708 per theater. The flick with Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page could make up to $55 million this weekend.
Still doing pretty well this Friday was "Despicable Me," which finished second on the chart and generated $10 million from ticket sales at 3,501 locations. Domestically, the 3D film has reached $354.3 million.
At No. 3, Jon Turteltaub's "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" picked up $5.4 million. Starring Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel, the Walt Disney release has grossed $12.4 million since its release Wednesday.
Meanwhile, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" bagged $4.5 million, enough for No. 4. The third installment in the series brought its cume to $255.8 million. Following at No. 5 was "Toy Story 3" with $3.4 million.
"Inception" deserves all the attention it's getting, and if you're not sure about it yet, just give it a shot. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. I'm glad to see it doing pretty well up there.
