Box Office: 'Toy Story 3' is a hit with $109M!

The toys are back in action, and they're taking the world by storm. Pixar's "Toy Story 3" took the No. 1 spot at the North American box office this weekend with $109 million in ticket sales, according to estimates.
The third installment in the series opened in 2D and 3D at 4,028 locations, scoring a massive average of $27,061 per theater. Lee Unkrich's film scored the highest opening ever for a film released in June.
Meanwhile, "Jonah Hex," this week's second wide release, only made it to No. 8 after a disappointing performance at 2,825 locations. Starring Josh Brolin, the film pulled $5 million only.
At No. 2, "The Karate Kid" bagged another $29 million, reaching a total of $106.5 after only a little more than one week in release. The remake delivered an average of $7,917 per theater at 3,663 locations.
Following in third place with $13.7 million was "The A-Team." The Joe Carnahan-directed flick brought its total to $49.7 million. "Get him to the Greek" earned $6.1 million at No. 4 ($47.8 million total).
Slipping to fifth this weekend was "Shrek Forever After," which took home $5.5 million for a cumulative gross of $222.9 million. The film registered the biggest loss (percentage) inside the top 10 this week.
"Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" stayed put at No. 6, generating $5.2 milion for a total haul of $80.5 million. "Killers" followed in seventh place with $5.1 million for a cume of $39.3 million.
At the bottom of the top 10, "Iron Man 2" finished at No. 9 with $2.6 million, reaching a domestic total of $304.7 million. Finally, "Marmaduke" wrapped it up with $2.6 million also ($27.8 million total).
Looking ahead, next week's releases include "Knight and Day" with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, as well as "Grown Ups," the comedy with Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Rob Schneider and Chris Rock.
