Trailer for George Clooney's 'The American' hits

The first trailer for Anton Corbjin's thriller "The American" has now officially debuted online, and you should check it out after the jump. To tell you the truth, it's quite intriguing, revealing not all too much about how the story will turn out. "The American" will debut in theaters Sept. 1, 2010.
Clooney plays Jack, a master assassin. When a job in Sweden ends more harshly than expected for this American abroad, he vows to his contact Larry that his next assignment will be his last. Jack reports to the Italian countryside, where he holes up in a town and relishes being away from death for a spell.
The assignment, as specified by a Belgian woman, Mathilde, is in the offing as a weapon is constructed. Surprising himself, Jack seeks out the friendship of local priest Father Benedetto and pursues romance with local woman Clara. But by stepping out of the shadows, Jack may be tempting fate.
That's it for the official synopsis, and as you can see, it sounds rather compelling. The trailer also looks inviting enough, and Clooney looks like he's in great shape. Anyway, "The American" is clearly one of the films I am really looking forward to this summer. You should too; it really looks good.
