Trailer for Carlos Saldanha's 'Rio' lands

Carlos Saldanha's next film is the 3D-animated adventure "Rio," which will be heading our way April 8, 2011. The first trailer for the Blue Sky Studios/Fox Animation project is now online (via Moviefone), and you can check it out after the jump. It's colorful and energetic, and at this point, it does look promising.

Essentially, "Rio" focuses on a macaw who abandons his small Minnesota town and heads to Rio de Janeiro to have a great summer. Rodrigo Santoro, Anne Hathaway, George Lopez and Jake T. Austin are part of the voice cast. Director Saldanha recently directed "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs."

With "Ice Age" taking the road down repetition lane, I feel Fox needs something new and edgy in the animation department. "Rio" could be that movie, although I will remain cautious until I see more footage from the film. But like I said, this looks promising, and that's worth something already.
