'Clash of the Titans' also leads overseas box office

One movie ruled Easter weekend at the worldwide box office, and that movie was "Clash of the Titans," a disappointing remake that brought in more than $60 million domestically. Overseas, the Louis Leterrier-directed action adventure bagged a solid $44.2 million in ticket sales in only 15 markets. That's a pretty darn good result.

Second on the circuit was DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon," which earned a strong $38.5 million in 54 territories. Following in third place with $34.2 million was Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland," which lifted its cumulative gross to $422.3 million. As you may have noticed, the top three titles are all 3D releases.

Meanwhile, Universal released "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang" in 12 markets. The sequel to the family film took $10.3 million. "The Bounty Hunter" with Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler followed in fifth place, and the movie grabbed another $9.3 million for a $29.8 million total gross.

"Kick-Ass" debuted in the U.K. with a decent gross of $5.7 million, while "She's Out of My League" collected $2.3 million. "Shutter Island" grabbed $6.7 million, and "The Blind Side" pulled $4.9 million. Also, "Avatar" bagged $4.6 million and brought its foreign total to $1.959 billion. "Remember Me" picked up $4.7 million.
