Box Office: 'Clash of the Titans' rules big time!

Louis Leterrier's "Clash of the Titans" remake stormed the North American box office and set a new Easter record this weekend with a superb $61.4 million in ticket sales. The Warner Bros. release opened ayt 3,777 locations Friday, scoring a weekend average of $16,256 per theater. The film's early cumulative gross stands at $64 million.

In the film, Sam Worthington plays Perseus, a demigod who heads out to clean up the mess created by the angry gods. The film received mixed reviews, but audiences flocked to theaters to check it out. It's playing in both 2D and 3D. This is truly a surprisingly solid start for a film opening on Easter weekend. In fact, it was a great overall weekend at the box office.

Tyler Perry's sequel "Why Did I Get Married Too?" debuted in second place and scored $30.1 million. The comedy-drama is playing at 2,155 locations and generated an average of $13,991 per theater. Miley Cyrus' new film "The Last Song," only made it to No. 4, where it bagged a mediocre $16.2 million for a total gross of $25.5 million. It opened Wednesday.

At No. 3, DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train a Dragon" picked up $29.2 million, down 33 percent from last weekend. Domestically, the 3D-anmiated adventure has brought its gross to $92.3 million after a decent one-week run. If you haven't see it yet, make sure you check it out, especially in IMAX.

Meanwhile, Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" slipped to fifth place, earning another $8.2 million. The film starring Johnny Depp has crossed the $300 million mark ($309.7 million total haul). Following at No. 6 was "Hot Tub Time Machine," which brought in $8 million and lifted its disappointing total gross to $27.8 million.

"The Bounty Hunter," a film I still haven't seen, landed at No. 7 this weekend with $6.2 million. The comedy with Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler lifted its total gross to $48.9 million. At No. 8, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" collected $5.5 million for a cume of $46.2 million. "She's Out of My League" pulled $1.4 million at No. 9, reaching a total gross of $28.6 million.

Rounding out the top 10 this weekend was Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island," which had a decent run with a total gross of $123.4 million. It collected $1.4 million this weekend. "Green Zone," "Our Family Wedding" and "Repo Men" left the top 10.

I wanna know did Clash of the titans ruled the international box office too or not.I think that the oversaturation of the 3d market is finally starting to happen with people realising that not all 3d movies will be like Avatar.
Despite this, Clash will most probably still make a profit worldwide as I think it will do pretty decent internationally. But I don't think it will do well enough to warrant a sequel.
