'Avatar' holds on to No. 1 spot overseas

Even though James Cameron's "Avatar" ended its reign at the North American box office this weekend, the movie still ruled on the international circuit, pulling in another $76 million in ticket sales.

Overseas, the film has now reached a total gross of $1.580 billion, and the worldwide total for Fox's sci-fi epic now stands at an insane $2.210 billion. Right now, it looks like "Avatar" may hold on to No. 1 overseas.

Meanwhile, "Sherlock Holmes" finished the weekend abroad with a solid $16.6 million in second place, followed by Disney's "The Princess and the Frog" at No. 3 with a gross of $15.3 million.

At No. 4, two films tied for the weekend: Jason Reitman's "Up in the Air" and Clint Eastwood's "Invictus" both generated $10.5 million. "Air" reached a total of $48.5 million, and "Invictus" reached $43.4 million.

Finally, the fifth spot on the circuit belonged to the stupid crap movie "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," which bagged another $7.1 million and broughts its cume to $200.7 million. What a sad world!

Other results from overseas: "It's Complicated" picked up $6 million, while "Tooth Fairy" bagged $3.8 million. "Did You hear About The Morgans?" pulled $3.7 million.
