Franck,
I have one thing to say about your (what the fuck?) comments after "The Blindside" and Sandra Bullock. Charming. Why should anyone take YOU seriously.
Michael, I'm not asking for anyone to take me seriously. Is my comment a little harsh? Maybe. Are some of these nominations just as harsh? By all means, yes:)
As matter of fact, slapping 'The Blind Side' in there proves we can't even take the Oscars seriously anymore.
Franck,
"The Blindside" was not a horrible film. If the category had not been widened to 10 this year, it would not have made the cut. We both know "The Blindside" and most of the other "extended" nominees will not win, but I feel it is nice for a movie with a positive message, which actually left audience members feeling happy when they left theatres to be a very good thing. I also feel the academy is really thinking outside the box to nominate Sandra Bullock for portraying a Southern, white, wealthy, conservative and religious woman. One who takes charge, does the right thing and gets it done. Its nice to see anyone from the south not being portrayed as backward and stupid. And yes, your (wtf?) comments are harsh. If there are other nominations you find harsh, why are you not placing a (wtf) next to them?
I see your point. For me personally, I saw plenty of feel-good films that year that were not as conventional or sappy as the "Blind Side," and that's why I think it just doesn't fit in there. Maybe I'm also the only one thinking this, but Bullock's accent alone terrified me most of the time. I just didn't buy most of it.
Honestly, the rest is not harsh at all. I'm not a supporter of "Avatar" being in there, but the majority works okay. I guess that too is a reason why "Blind Side" just threw me off so much. For me, there is no way it can compare to or match up with any of the nominees in that category.
Maggie Gyllenhaal's nomination is a "what the hell?! She was horrible in Crazy Heart and is the most overrated actor. There were so many better actresses who should have been nominated: Julianne Moore, Juliette Binoche, Diane Kruger, Melanie Lauren, Samantha Morton. and on and on.
Maggie Gyllenhaal over Julianne Moore - what the f*ck!
