This week's new movie releases - Feb. 12, 2010
Opening this week are Joe Johnston's "The Wolfman" with Benicio Del Toro, "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" with Logan Lerman and "Valentine's Day" with Ashton Kutcher.

THE WOLFMAN (with Benicio Del Toro & Emily Blunt)
Synopsis: Inspired by the classic Universal film that launched a legacy of horror, "The Wolfman" brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins. Benicio Del Toro stars as Lawrence Talbot, a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father (Anthony Hopkins), Talbot sets out to find his brother...and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself.
First thoughts: There's been a lot of hype about this one recently, and I am quite excited to see this one, for sure. Cast looks very promising, and trailers and TV spots really delivered. Let's hope Universal scored with this one. My excitement meter for this one: 8/10

VALENTINE'S DAY (with Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel)
Synopsis: A diverse group of Los Angelenos navigate their way through romance and heartbreak over the course of one Valentine's Day.
First thoughts: Okay, I can't say too much about this one just yet, but I saw it the other day and left the theater disappointed. Female audiences may find it very cute, but it's definitely a cheap "Love Actually" rip-off.

PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS (with Logan Lerman)
Synopsis: It's the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson's Greek mythology texts and into his life. And they're not happy: Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy's mother.
First thoughts: Just saw this one this morning, and while I can't publish my review quite yet, I can say that this film neither impressed nor disappointed me. Kids may enjoy it, and both acting and visuals mostly work.

Benicio del Toro is the best actor of the last decade. I think he doesn't have much future as film producer, speciall y since he was found using Generic Viagra on backstage, but in general he has all qualities to be in our minds for a long while.
