Box Office: 'Megamind' scores massive $47M

Wow! DreamWorks Animation's latest family adventure "Megamind" stormed the North American box office this weekend with a superb $47.6 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Playing at 3,944 sites, "Megamind," which features the voices of Brad Pitt and Will Ferrell, scored a huge average of $12,081 per theater. The animated film's budget is estimated at a big $130 million.

Coming in second this weekend was Todd Phillips' comedy "Due Date" with Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis. The flick collected $33.5 million via an average of $9,985 per sites at 3,355 theaters.

Following at No. 3 was Tyler Perry's drama "For Colored Girls," which picked up $20.1 million from 2,127 venues. The film based on the popular play stars Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg and Macy Gray.

Meanwhile, "RED" dropped to fourth place this weekend, earning another $8.8 million for a total gross of $71.8 million. Following at No. 5 with $8.2 million was "Saw 3D," which reached a total of $38.8 million.

At No. 6, "Paranormal Activity 2" bagged $7.2 million for a domestic gross of $77.2 million. "Jackass 3D" followed in seventh place with a weekend gross of $5 million and a huge cume of $110.8 million.

Also, Clint Eastwood's "Hereafter" took home $4 million, lifting its total haul to $28.7 million. "Secretariat" dropped to ninth place for a total gross of $50.9 million. "The Social Network" ended 10th with $3.6 million.
