While it's pretty much gone here in North America, Paul W.S. Anderson's "Resident Evil: Afterlife" continues to own the international box office, even though numbers have been down overseas as well.
Still, "Afterlife" came in first this weekend with $15 million in ticket sales, reaching a total haul of $181.2 million. Not bad for the fourth film in the popular series. The next one is coming for sure...
Julia Roberts is doing fine overseas as well, with "Eat Pray Love" finishing second with $13.4 million. The film has grossed close to $40 million on the international circuit. It will further expand next week.
Although not a fabulous movie, "Despicable Me" made it to No. 3 this weekend, earning $12.4 million for a total gross of $114.3 million. Following at No. 4 with $10 million was "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps."
Finally, "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole" (which I still have to see) landed at No. 5, bagging $8.3 million for an early overseas total of $9.9 million. (Source: The Hollywood Reporter)
