Box Office: 'The Social Network' wins race

David Fincher's "The Social Network" easily topped the North American box office this weekend as audiences "liked" the movie chronicling the beginning of Facebook. "Network" bagged $23 million.

Starring Jesse Eisenberg as the site's founder Mark Zuckerberg, the film scored an average of $8,300 per theater at 2,771 locations. Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake co-star in "The Social Network."

Things turned out pretty lame for the weekend's remaining two releases. Renee Zellweger's crappy horror movie "Case 39" onliy made it to No. 7, generating $5.3 million in ticket sales at 2,211 locations.

Following at No. 8 was new entry "Let Me In," Matt Reeves' horror remake that stars Chloe Moretz as a vampire child. The film earned $5.3 million from ticket sales at 2,020 locations - a disappointing result.

Coming in second at the box office was "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," which pulled $10.8 million for a cume of $30 million. "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" followed with $10.8 million.

The Oliver Stone sequel starring Michae Douglas as Gordon Gekko reached a total gross of $35.8 million. The film also beat "The Town" by a mere $1 million. "Town" picked up $10 million at No. 4 this weekend.

Meanwhile, "Easy A" landed at No. 5 with a three-day gross of $7 million and a cume of $42.4 million. "You Again" took the No. 6 spot with $5.5 million for a domestic haul of $16.4 million.

Rounding out the top 10 were "Devil," which earned $3.6 million at No. 9 ($27.3 million total), and "Alpha and Omega," which finished tenth with $3 million (cume of $19 million).
