'The Social Network' bags $8M Friday

David Fincher's "The Social Network" jumped to the top of the North American box office Friday with a solid $8 million in ticket sales, according to estimates. The film could finish the weekend with $24 million.
Playing at 2,771 locations, "The Social Network" scored a decent average of $2,887 per theater Friday. Starring Jesse Eisenberg, the film chronicles the creation of Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg at Harvard.
This week's other wide releases underperformed a bit. Matt Reeves' horror remake "Let Me In," which stars Chloe Moretz in the lead, debuted only at No. 6, earning $1.9 million only from 2,021 sites.
Meanwhile, "Case 39" with Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper finished seventh Friday, bagging a mere $1.8 million. The film follows a social worker whose life spins out of control when she meets a young girl.
Oliver Stone's "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" slipped to second place, picking up $3.2 million for a total gross of $29 million. "The Town" followed at No. 3, earning $3.1 million for a cume of $57.4 milion.
At No. 4, Zack Snyder's "Legend of the Guardians" generated another $2.6 million Friday, lifting its cumulative gross to $2.6 million. "Easy A" grabbed the fifth spot with $2.2 million ($37.7 million total).
