Matt Damon won't be in 'Bourne Legacy'

Just about a week ago we learned Tony Gilroy will direct Universal Pictures' "The Bourne Legacy," and now the man himself has come forward to clarify some things about the fourth "Bourne" adventure.

Speaking to Hollywood Elsewhere, Gilroy first of all said that Matt Damon will not be part of the project. "Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he's very much alive," Gilroy said. So what does that mean?

Essentially, "Legacy" will be a stand-alone project focusing on a whole new hero. It's a completely original story Gilroy says he will use to build "a legend and an environment and a wider conspiracy."

It's still rather unclear what that means exactly, but he also said that the three previous films act as a trigger for what goes down in "Legacy." Oh, and the film invites Bourne's return in the future. Interesting...

thank CHRIST. The Bourne trilogy is definitely one of the most consistently entertaining trilogies of all time. better than the star wars trilogy (obviously to me theres only ONE star wars trilogy, its hard for me to think back on episodes 1-3), this third act actually didn't get ridiculous, but upped the stakes and maturaity level, it progressed. this fourth bourne can blow itself for all i care, matt damon IS jason bourne.. thats my two or three cents.
