Matthew McConaughey joins Linklater comedy

Matthew McConaughey and Rip Torn have joined Richard Linklater's upcoming dark comedy "Bernie," which already stars Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine. Castle Rock and Mandalay Vision are developing.

THR says the film takes place in a small Texas town and follows a community leader/mortician named Bernie, who first befriends but then kills a wealthy widow. After that, he tries to pretend she's still alive.

Sounds like just the kind of material Linklater can handle, so I'm quite excited about this already. McConaughey ("The Lincoln Lawyer") will play the town's district attorney, according to the trade.
