'Avatar' grabs another decent $8M Monday

Despite slowing down, 'Avatar' performs rather well at the box office Monday

Well, the holidays are over, and it will now be interesting to see how things will go for James Cameron's "Avatar" at the box office in the coming weeks. Right now, the film is doing just fine, bagging another $8 million at the North American box office Monday.

"Avatar" has now reached a total domestic gross of $360.2 million after 18 days in release. That's not a bad performance. The film's earnings dropped because the holidays are over and people are getting back into work and school mode, but for a Monday, $8 million is okay.

By the way, "Avatar" has now grossed $1.06 billion worldwide, and it's quickly closing in on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest." Meanwhile, "Sherlock Holmes" came in second Monday, earning $2.9 million for a total gross of $141.2 million.

At No. 3, "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" picked up another $2.2 million, bringing its cume to $158.1 million. Following in fourth place with a daily gross of $1.4 million was "It's Complicated," which reached a total haul of $60.6 million.

Yay...Pocahontas/Princess Mononoke/Dances With Wolves in space! Actually, the only complaint I have was my butt hurt after sitting in my seat for so long, erm so did my bladder. Good job James Cameron.
