Lionsgate picks up 'Buried' at Sundance

Ryan Reynolds in Lionsgate's Buried

Lionsgate has picked up the North American distribution rights for "Buried," Rodrigo Cortés' thriller that premiered at Sundance and draw quite a large amount of interest among audiences and buyers.

The Hollywood Reporter says Lionsgate had to fight Screen Gems and Fox Searchlight to acquire the rights to the film, which stars Ryan Reynolds as a man who's kidnapped and wakes up locked in a coffin.

Folks with claustrophobia will not see this movie, but Lionsgate decided it's worth spending more than $3 million on. "Buried" marks the first big sale at the Sundance Film Festival, which is currently running.
