The plot: Derek is a mean hockey player who gets a chance to make things right when he's ordered to duty as a real tooth fairy.
Our thoughts: Dwayne Johnson’s new family film “Tooth Fairy” could potentially go down as the worst film of the new decade. I know it may seem a bit early to make such a harsh statement, but believe it or not, I found it awfully painful to sit through this mess. In fact, it’s one of those dreadful movie experiences you’ll never want to have again.
I knew “Tooth Fairy” would disappoint me before I even walked into the screening room, but let me tell you, I was so not ready for the failure I had to face. The film stars Johnson in the role of Derek ‘The Tooth Fairy’ Thompson, a skilled hockey player who earned his nickname after he started knocking out his opponents’ teeth on ice.
Derek, however, is not the youngest player anymore, and as he’s seeing his success fade away, he starts getting all grumpy on his fans (especially kids) by literally smashing their dreams. That’s when Derek is suddenly ordered to serve duty as a real tooth fairy, complete with a real magic wand, real wings and a ridiculous costume.
Arrogant as he is, Derek obviously doesn’t take his new job all too seriously, but when the head tooth fairy (Julie Andrews) threatens to extent his sentence, he slowly begins to realize that the only way to get through this awkward ordeal is to change his attitude and make up for all the mistakes he made and all the people he hurt.
Next thing you know, Derek is struggling with the job as a real tooth fairy, and while this may sound more or less funny, it’s not. Trust me, “Tooth Fairy” is a shocking disaster. The driving forces behind the failure that is this film is the poor script and terrible acting, which really made me want to bombard the big screen with Molotov cocktails.

Johnson’s countless attempts at acting all cool and funny in his stupid fairy costume fail miserably, and his character is one that starts annoying you the first time he appears in front of the camera. The majority of the film follows Derek as he behaves like a moronic kid while collecting teeth from children, and sadly enough, none of it is in any way hilarious.
It’s actually pretty sad to see studios throwing this kind of garbage at audiences. Sure, kids of a young age may find all this very goofy, but that doesn’t make it a good film. On the contrary, it displays embarrassingly stupid humor in order to get its message across, and that’s just not how filmmaking should be done. Whatever happened to creativity?
Everybody should believe in dreams, the movie tells us, and while that’s certainly true, I feel it could have been conveyed in a better way than having a mean hockey player experience a change in behavior through a mission as a tooth fairy abusing the system and making everyone around him feel like crap.
To cut a long story short, “Tooth Fairy” sucks big time, and if you want your children to watch something that’s both inspirational and funny, make sure you don’t take them to see this one. Do yourself a favor and don’t contribute to the film’s box office earnings; it certainly doesn’t deserve a single penny.
Freaky quote: "I'm the tooth fairy. Oh yeah!" - Dwayne Johnson
The final word: Dwayne Johnson has starred in a bunch of crappy movies, and it looks like his roles are only getting worse. Hey, I can see why people put him in these sucky kid flicks, but is it really too much to ask to come up with a funny, innovative and meaningful story? Wait! Don’t answer that. I know it is. Let’s watch this “Tooth Fairy” crash and burn.
