Stephen Frears to direct 'Tamara Drewe'

Stephen frears

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Stephen Frears, who last directed the moderately interesting "Chéri," is all set to direct the big-screen adaptation of Posy Simmonds' graphic novel "Tamara Drewe."

The plot follows Drewe, a sexy lady who heads back to her country village and provokes dark passions among the town's residents. Variety says Gemma Arterton ("Quantum of Solace") will play the lead.

Also joining the cast are Dominic Cooper, Roger Allam, Luke Evans, Bill Camp and Tamsin Greig. Moira Buffini wrote the script for "Tamara."

Frears has delivered a series of wonderful films, including the majestic "The Queen" and the intriguing "Dirty Pretty Things." He also helmed "Dangerous Liaisons" and "High Fidelity."
