J.J. Abrams really is the man to go to for solid entertainment in Hollywood right now. I mean, this guy resurrected "Star Trek" earlier this year and just so happened to create one of the summer's most intriguing, most entertaining sci-fi blockbusters.
Of course, everybody is already looking forward to a sequel, and Sci Fi Wire and The Los Angeles recently asked Abrams about his plans for "Star Trek 2." The plan right now is to have the follow-up hit theaters in 2011. Abrams had some interesting things to say about the film, so here is the most important.
Abrams tells Sci Fi Wire:
"We're just starting on that. Yes, we know the direction, but it's very early. We're working on a script right now still. I can tell you it's cool. We have some really cool ideas, but it's too early."
And he told the L.A. Times:
"It needs to tell a story that has connection to what is familiar and what is relevant. It also needs to tell it in a spectacular way that hides the machinery and in a primarily entertaining and hopefully moving story. There needs to be relevance, yes, and that doesn't mean it should be pretentious. If there are simple truths -- truths connected to what we live -- that elevates any story -- that's true with any story."
Roberto Orci, screenwriter of "Star Trek," had this to add:
"We’re trying to keep it as up-to-date and as reflective of what’s going on today as possible. So that’s one thing, to make it reflect the things that we are all dealing with today."
On "Mission: Impossible IV," Abrams said:
"Yeah, we have a really cool story. It's being written right now by Andre Nemec and Josh Applebaum."
