Walt Disney Studios and acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro are joining forces to create the "Disney Double Dare You" production label, which will focus on creating animated films stuffed with chills and thrills.
Del Toro will keep an eye on all the productions going through the label, and he plans to direct some of the films as well. "Trollhunters" is the title of the first project Double Dare You will handle, and del Toro is on board to produce.
“Guillermo is a brilliant and visionary filmmaker, and we’re excited to be launching this new label with him," said Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios.
"His knowledge and appreciation for Disney films, along with his penchant for creating worlds of fantasy, presented a great opportunity for us to explore a whole new genre of filmmaking for moviegoers of all ages," he said.
Del Toro said he is excited to belong to a partnership he admires. "As a director, I love to take audiences into fantastic new worlds and provide them with some anxious moments in the process," he said. "It is part of the Disney canon to create thrilling, unforgettable moments and villains in all their classic films."
Del Toro last directed "Hellboy II: The Golden Army," and he's busy developing "The Hobbit." His recent credits also include "Pan's Labyrinth."
