I still hate the idea of Columbia moving forward with "Hancock 2," but that's how Hollywood works and I may just as well stop complaining. Today comes word the leading cast will also be back for the sequel of the terribly disappointing "Hancock."
MTV recently spoke to returning director Peter Berg ("The Kingdom," "Friday Night Lights"), who kind of confirmed Will Smith and Charlize Theron will both be back to reprise their roles. "Everybody's going to come back for a sequel," he said.
Just last month, Columbia hired Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to write "Hancock 2." Both have solid experience in television, working on shows such as "The Shield," "Crash" and "24" in several capacities.
Backing up a little, the first "Hancock" was directed by Peter Berg and followed Smith as drunken superhero meets an optimistic PR guy (Jason Bateman) who offers to help him repair his damaged image in the community. The ending already hinted at a sequel.
I absolutely love Theron and always enjoy watching her on the big screen, but I was hoping she'd pass on this one. I guess the paycheck is gigantic, because I certainly wouldn't fancy a role like hers in such a disastrous flick.
Anyway, Theron will next be seen in the fantastic drama "The Burning Plain." Smith was last seen in "Seven Pounds" and has like a million projects in development.
Jason Bateman is now also on board for the sequel. That, at least, is some good news!
