'Inglourious Basterds' reaches $50M this week

Sure, opening weekend grosses are important and indicative of a movie's overall performance, but those daily grosses during the week can quickly add up. Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," for instance, collected $12.3 million between Monday and Wednesday, lifting its total gross to $50.5 million.
"Basterds" picked up $4.6 million Monday, followed by a daily gross of $4.2 million Tuesday. Wednesday was a slower day, as the film pulled in only $3.5 million. The R-rated WWII flick will face some serious competition this weekend from "Halloween II" and "The Final Destination."
Following "Basterds" this week was "District 9," which grossed another $5.7 million these past three days. The sci-fi action flick from Neill Blomkamp reached a domestic total of $78.5 million.
At an overall No. 3, "Julie & Julia" picked up $1 million Monday, $1.2 million Tuesday, and $1.1 million Wednesday, bringing its cume to $62.4 million.
Here are some other total grosses after Wednesday's earnings: "The Time Traveler's Wife" reached $40.4 million; "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" lifted its total to $123.5 million; and "Shorts" reached $8.2 million.
