Here are some short but interesting film news that appeared in the trades and on the Web today:
• Billy Bob Thornton is in talks to star in "Pound for Pound," a boxing flick based on F.X. Toole's novel. Writing and directing the project is Ron Shelton. The film focuses on two men whose lives intersect. Thornton would be playing a retired, widowed boxer who slips into depression after his grandson is killed in an accident. The other one is a young Latino fighter struggling with life as well. (The Hollywood Reporter)
• Judy Greer, who will soon show up in "Love Happens," will star in Edward Zwick's upcoming "Love and Other Drugs." Also starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, the film follows a drug salesman who falls for a woman with Parkinson's. Greer will portray a pharmaceutical company trainee instructor. (Variety)
• Warner will be remaking John Boorman's 1981 flick "Excalibur," and Bryan Singer may come on board to direct. Variety saysthe film "explores the myth of King Arthur, complete with the Knights of the Round Table, Merlin the wizard and the quest for the Holy Grail to save Arthur's life." Singer also has "Jack the Giant Killer" and "Battlestar Galactica" lined up.
• Sony has decided to move the upcoming Michael Jackson concert film "This Is It" to Wednesday, Oct. 28. The film was originally set to open Oct. 30. The film will run for two weeks and will include scenes drawn from hours of rehearsal and behind-the-scenes footage captured in high definition as Jackson geared up for his concert series in London. (The Hollywood Reporter)
• As a huge "X-Files" fan, I admit I hated "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," and I am not ready for a sequel. The show's nine seasons and the first film were awesome, but that's the end of it. Or not? A new rumor that has been circling the Web for a few days says that a third "X-Files" movies would be in early developmental stages. I don't believe it, but you can read more about it here.
