Daily news dose: Anthony Mackie checks into 'Adjustment Bureau;' Moritz Bleibtreu is Mephisto

Anthony Mackie

Here is your dose of film news bits for Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009:

• Anthony Mackie ("The Hurt Locker") has signed on to star in George Nolfi's upcoming thriller "The Adjustment Bureau," based on a short story by Philip K. Dick. Matt Damon is on board to star as a promising congressman whose career takes a turn when he meets a beautiful ballet dancer, played by Emily Blunt. (Variety)

• German actor Moritz Bleibtreu, who was recently seen in "Der Baader Meinhof Komplex," will play Mephisto in Oskar Roehler's big-screen version of Goethe's "Faust." Of course, the film follows the classic story of a desperate man selling his soul to the devil for knowledge. I clearly remember this one from high school. (THR)

• There was a rumor out there on the Web that Bruce Willis may show up in Sylvester Stallone's upcoming action flick "The Expendables," but now the actor himself has confirmed his involvement. Willis told MTV he is not sure what his role will be, but he is set to appear on-screen with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sly. More here.

• From CinemaBlend comes the news that Rosario Dawson has apparently joined the cast of Tony Scott's "Unstoppable," that action flick that almost didn't get made but is now back on track. Chris Pine and Denzel Washington star in the film about an engineer of a locomotive who attempts to chase a train loaded with  toxic chemicals.
