While the superb "District 9" took the crown at the North American box office this weekend, Stephen Sommers' "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" continued its overseas dominance with a gross of $26.2 million in a total of 49 markets.
The mediocre summer action flick brought its international total to $91.5 million after only one week in release. At home, "Joe" has collected $98.7 million to date.
Meanwhile, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" finished second this weekend with $14.5 million. Currently, the film's cumulative gross stands at $577.7 million.
At No. 3, Fox's animated adventure "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" picked up $11.2 million, reaching a stunning overseas cume of $600.7 million.
Following in fourth place was Pixar's "Up," yet another animated tale. "Up" finished the weekend with $10.6 million, bringing its total haul to $128 million.
Staying put at No. 5 was Michael Mann's "Public Enemies," which reached a cumulative gross of $75.5 million after weekend earnings of $9.2 million.
By the way, "District 9" launched in nine markets with a weekend gross of $7 million. That's not a bad start, considering the film will expand into more markets in the coming weeks.

It is said that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is better than Transformer, one and two add up.
Exactly, not that I am saying Transformer suck, I like the film anyway, while G.I Joe just exceeds that. I didn’t expect so much for the movie, but what present to me now is a movie of precise temple, smart suspense and of cause, all kinds of thrilling visual stimulation.
