Sam Worthington's official 'Avatar' photo

We've been reading and hearing a whole lot about James Cameron's upcoming 3D spectacle "Avatar," and now the first official photo from the film has popped up online @ SlashFilm. As you can see directly above, it looks cool, and it's got Sam Worthington in it.

"Avatar" takes cinemagoers to a spectacular new world beyond their imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption, discovery and unexpected love, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. Sounds pretty intriguing to me.

"Avatar" won't hit theaters until Dec. 18, 2009, but 20th Century Fox will launch the trailer for the film on "Avatar Day," which is Aug. 21.
