Daily new dose: Jack Huston joins 'Eclipse' cast; Paul Giamatti to star in 'Three Stooges'

Jack Huston in Outlander

Here is your dose of film news for August 12, 2009:

• Jack Huston ("Shrink") has boarded David Slade's "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," and he is set to play Royce King II, who lived during the Great Depression. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Bryce Dallas Howard co-star in the film, which will head into production soon. (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Peter and Bobby Farrelly's upcoming "The Three Stooges" is still working on the cast situation, but according to the Boston Globe, Paul Giamatti has now signed on to replace Sean Penn in the role of Larry. Benicio Del Toro will play Moe, but Jim Carrey will not be starring as Curly.

• As you may have read, Courteney Cox will return as Gale Weathers in the upcoming fourth "Scream" film, and she recently shared some information about the project, which Kevin Williamson is working on. "She has a kid now," Cox recently revealed. "She's married to Dewey." (Sci-Fi Wire)

• News that "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" will get a sequel isn't new, but the Los Angeles Times says the film will hit development soon. Rob Moore, Paramount's vice chairman, apparently said the film's lead actors are contractually obligated to return. Stephen Sommers is not, but my guess is he may be back as well.

• Natalie Portman will produce Fox's upcoming comedy "Booksmart." Written by Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern, the film follows two high school seniors who embark on a mission to find boyfriends by the time prom rolls around. Portman's got "Love & Other Impossible Pursuits" coming up soon. (Variety)

• Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, the team behind "Half Nelson," will direct "It's Kind of a Funny Story" for Focus Features. In the film written by Fleck and Boden, a 15-year-old boy who suffers from depression checks into a psychiatric hospital and realizes he's been placed in the adult ward. (THR)
