Here's a brief entry with short descriptions and links to film news we either missed or quite honestly didn't have time to add. Here's what you need to know on August 2, 2009:
• Star producer Jerry Bruckheimer has acquired the big-screen rights to the graphic novel "World War Robot," chronicling the battle between humans and robots on Earth, Mars and the moon. More on this @ Variety.
• Jason Reitman ("Juno") will show his next film "Up in the Air" as a world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September. The flick follows George Clooney as a frequent-flyer counselor who helps large companies fire their executives. (Variety)
• According to the Risky Biz Blog, Universal is chasing after Jesus, prepping what will be a remake of "Jesus Christ Superstar." Apparently, Uni has also been talking to "(500) Days of Summer" director Marc Webb, who could end up helming "Jesus." More here.
• The folks @ ShockTillYouDrop recently sat down and chatted with David Twohy about the next "Riddick" flick. Here's some of what he had to say: "The third movie would be more modestly-scaled and it would probably feel more like 'Pitch Black' then 'Chronicles.' It will always be Riddick-centric."
• Wait! From ShockTillYouDrop also comes news that "SAW VII" will more than likely hit theaters in 3D. Oh, and apparently, Paul W.S. Anderso has recruited James Cameron's 3D folks to work on "Resident Evil: Afterlife," which will also head your way in the third dimension.
• Here's what actor Jeremy Renner told the Modesto Bee about the new "Mad Max" film: "I'm also fighting to do the new Mad Max film with George Miller. That might be next summer. I'm screen-testing and meeting George Miller." (via Joblo)
• From Twitch comes the news that Denzel Washington may be attached to star in the remake of Kim Ji-Woon’s "A Bittersweet Life." No director is on board yet. Washington will soon be seen in "The Book of Eli."
• Neill Blomkamp, whose "District 9" will open Aug. 14, 2009, told Sci Fi Wire that if the film succeeded at the box office, he'd definitely enjoy doing a sequel. He said, "It's a very personal film, and it's a universe and a place that I find incredibly creative. I'd love to go back to that universe."
