This and that in film news: 'inFamous' head to big screen; Charlize Theron heads to 'Arabia'

Here are some cool film news you really shouldn't miss on this July 29, 2009:

• Sheldon Turner is set to write the big-screen adaptation of the popular video game "inFAMOUS" for Sony Pictures. The game follows Cole MacGrath, who discovers he's got electricity-derived super powers after an explosion rips through Empire City. (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Oscar winner Charlize Theron is set to develop and maybe star in the big-screen adaptation of Christopher Buckley's novel "Florence of Arabia." Dean Craig is writing the script, about a State Department employee who fights for equal rights for women in a Middle Eastern country. (Variety)

• Robert Schwentke, whose credits include "Flightplan" and "Time Traveler's Wife," is in talks to direct Summit's thriller "Red." The film follows a retired black-ops CIA agent whose peaceful life takes a turn when an assassin shows up at his door to kill him. Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman star. (THR)

• The folks at LatinoReview posted a script review of the upcoming sequel "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage." As you can read right here, the story will involve a bunch of stolen nuclear heads. Anyway, Vin Diesel will return as the title character in the film.

• Amanda Crew, who recently starred in "Sex Drive" and "The Haunting in Connecticut," will join Zac Efron in Burr Steers' upcoming "Charlie St. Cloud," based on the novel by Ben Sherwood. Efron plays a cemetary caretaker who meets weekly with a younger brother, who recently died. Crew plays Efron's love interest. (THR)

• Want to know what the "Terminator Salvation" DVD packaging looks like? Head over to GeekTyrant and you will also find the disc specs for the DVD release, due in stores in December. Looks like you're in for a bunch of featurettes and other extras surrounding McG's action vehicle.

• Robert Mark Kamen is teaming up with Atlas Entertainment for "The Lord's Day," a thriller about a member of the British Parliament who attempts to free the hostages taken at Britain's House of Lords by a group of terrorists. Kame also wrote Pierre Morel's intense thriller "Taken." (THR)

• Last but not least, here's a cool poster (see below) for the upcoming "New York, I Love You," set for limited release this October. The film will showcase several shorts focusing on all things love in the Big Apple, giving audiences the opportunity to experience some of the city’s most famous, beautiful locations.
