Box Office: 'G-Force' crawls to top with $32M

Walt Disney’s 3D-animated family flick “G-Force” topped the North American box office with $32.1 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The Jerry Bruckheimer-produced film follows a squad of smart guinea pigs trying to stop a ruthless villain from taking over the world. The film grabbed an average of $8,697 per theater at 3,697 locations.

Last week’s winner “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” collected another $30 million in second place, reaching a total gross of $221.8 million after an excellent one-week run.

New entry “The Ugly Truth” debuted in third place with a weekend gross of $27 million from ticket sales at 2,882 locations. Starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler, the film centers on a TV producer struggling to control the cocky host of one of her shows.

At a distant No. 4, new release “Orphan” picked up $12.7 million. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard and Isabelle Fuhrman, the horror thriller follows a couple adopting a young girl with a terrifying secret.

Meanwhile, “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” slipped to No. 5, taking home $8.2 million for a cumulative gross of $171.2 million after four weeks in release. Following closely at No. 6 with $8 million was “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” which brought its cume to $379 million.

Todd Phillips’ hit comedy “The Hangover” pulled in $6.4 million at No. 7, lifting its domestic total to $247 million after a strong six-week run. “The Proposal” finished eighth with a weekend gross of $6.4 million also. The comedy’s total currently stands at $140 million.

At the bottom of the top 10, Michael Mann’s Johnny Depp vehicle “Public Enemies” dropped to No. 9 with $4.1 million, reaching a domestic total of $88 million.

At No. 10, Sacha Baron Cohen’s "Brüno” picked up $2.7 million for a total haul of $56.5 million after three weeks in release.
