Box Office: 'Revenge of the Fallen' reaches $200M

Weekend of June 26 - 28, 2009

Michael Bay's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" crushed the North American box office this week with an impressive $201.2 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The anticipated sequel to "Transformers" opened at 4,234 locations Wednesday and scored a daily gross of $60.6 million, the highest ever for a Wednesday. The film brought in another $28 million Thursday and $36.7 million on Friday.

At a distant No. 2, last week's winner "The Proposal" collected $18.4 million, reaching a domestic gross of $69 million. Starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, the film follows an overbearing book editor who forces her assistant into marrying her when she faces deportation to Canada.

Following in third place with $17.2 million was Todd Phillips' comedy "The Hangover," which lifted its cume to a solid $183.2 million after a superb four-week run.

Meanwhile, Pixar’s “Up” brought in an additional $13 million at No. 4, lifting its total haul to $250.2 million. The animated family flick follows a 78-year-old widower who takes his entire house on a trip to South America.

New entry "My Sister's Keeper" wasn't all too lucky this weekend. The Nick Cassavetes-directed drama With Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin debuted in fifth place with only $12 million from ticket sales at 2,606 locations.

Harold Ramis' comedy "Year One" slipped to No. 6, earning $5.8 million for a domestic total of $32.2 million. Following in seventh place with $5.4 million was Tony Scott's "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3," which brought its cume to $53.4 million after three weeks in release.

At the bottom of the top 10, J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" picked up another $3.6 million for a total haul of $246.2 million. "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" followed at No. 9 with a weekend gross of $3.5 million and a domestic total of $163.2 million.

Finally, Sam Mendes' dramedy "Away We Go" took home $1.6 million at No. 10. Now playing at 495 locations, the film brought its total gross to $4 million.
