'Revenge of the Fallen' grabs $16M at midnight

It's off to a good start for Michael Bay's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," which launches at 4,226 locations in North America today.

According to the trades, the anticipated sequel to "Transformers" scored a solid $16 million from about 3,000 midnight screenings. Yeah, that's quite impressive indeed!

Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" still holds the record with $18.5 million from midnight showings, but "Revenge of the Fallen" delivered the best ever midnight opening for a flick starting on a Wednesday.

Many reviews for the sequel don't look that well, but that will not prevent fans from paying a visit to a close theater this weekend. "Revenge of the Fallen" is expected kill all competition at the box office.
