'Terminator Salvation' owns Thursday box office

Christian Bale in Terminator Salvation

McG's "Terminator Salvation" dominated the North American box office Thursday with an estimated $13.3 million in ticket sales.

The fourth installment in the popular series stars Christian Bale as John Connor, who leads the resistance in the battle against the machines in 2018.

Still going strong at No. 2 was J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek," which earned another $2.9 million for a total of $161.6 million. Following in third place was "Angels & Demons," which collected $2.6 million for a cume of $60.1 million.

Meanwhile, Gavin Hood's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" picked up $811,037, bringing its total gross to $155.2 million. At No. 5, "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" reached a total haul of $42.1 million after Thursday's earnings of $545,387.
