Von Donnersmarck may direct '28th Amendment'

German filmmaker Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is in talks to direct Warner Bros.' upcoming drama "The 28th Amendment."

According to Variety, Tom Cruise is still attached to star in the project, which centers on the president as he discovers his country is in fact run by a secret organization that pretty much eliminates everybody who poses a threat against the United States.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, whose credits include "Star Trek," "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "Alias," are rewriting their own script.

Von Donnersmarck's fantastic drama "The Lives of Others" (Das Leben der Anderen) won the foreign language Oscar in 2007. This would be his first film since the win.

As for Cruise, he's currently trying to keep himself busy with new projects. Projects he's currently considering include "The Tourist" and "Motorcade."
