TV's 'MacGyver' heading to the big screen
The Mac is coming to the big screen!
New Line Cinema is currently developing a big-screen version of television's popular "MacGyver" series, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The original show's creator Lee David Zlotoff is on board to co-produce the project, which at this time as no writer attached.
"MacGyver" ran from 1985-1992 and starred Richard Dean Anderson as the titular character, a skilled secret agent who used crazy tricks to escape perilous situations.
New Line is obviously very excited about this project and already talks about the potential of establishing a brand-new franchise.
Anderson's TV credits also include "Stargate: Atlantis" and "Stargate SG-1." It will be interesting to see who's going to end up scoring the role in this big-screen resurrection.

What does it mean: "It will be interesting to see who's going to end up scoring the role in this big-screen resurrection"? Shouldn't it be Richard Dean Anderson to play the same role on the big screen? MacGyver is Richard Dean Anderson; Richard Dean Anderson is MacGyver. What's the point to watch this movie if it's not him...
Harrison Ford made Indiana Jones 4 when he was 65, and Richard Dean Anderson is not even 60 yet.
it means Anderson has not been offered the role. Heck, the studio may consider him too old for it, who knows...
I utterly agree with the first comment. Mac Gyver IS and can only ever be R.D. Anderson. No fan of the series will want to watch the film without him, it would be absolute nonsense otherwise. If they decided to cast someone else, they would lose 9/10th of the people who loved the series in the 80s and 90s. Surely, if they're hoping for a success, they can't put him aside.
It shouldn't be too difficult to write a scenario that makes RDA/McGyver come out of his retirement (say he's gone to live in the middle of nature somewhere beautiful but has to come back to help face some big challenge) and take action again. The world environmental/social issues need him, and noone embodies environmental/pacifist/positive action as well as RDAnderson does. Bringing him back would make a blockbuster. Don't make the mistake of casting someone else.
