Danny DeVito to direct 'Crazy Eddie' biopic

Filmmaker Danny DeVito will direct "Crazy Eddie," a biopic about the life and career of Eddie Antar, head of the popular U.S. consumer electronics chain.

Antar debuted the Crazy Eddie franchise in 1971, quickly expanding his business while simultaneously developing successful ad campaigns.

His growing business, however, didn't keep Antar from engaging in illegal practices. Charged with fraud, Antar fled to Israel in 1990, although he was soon extradited to the U.S. to serve a prison term.

According to Variety, Peter Steinfeld, whose credits include "21" and "Be Cool," is writing the script. Apparently, DeVito also said Antar will cooperate in making the film.

DeVito was last seen in "Nobel Son." He last directed "Duplex" for the big screen in 2003.
