What to expect at the movies in March '09

January was a disappointing month as far as new movie releases were concerned, and to be honest, February hasn't been that great of a month either. But what about March? Will we finally be able to see more than just one or two solid films in one month?

I have to admit my expectations are pretty high. The movie month of March kicks off with Zack Snyder's anticipated "Watchmen," a film many folks out there are just dying to see. Some early reviews I read are pretty mixed, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I'm really excited to see this flick, and I hope it will deliver the goods.

The following weekend, however, doesn't look that exciting. One of the three releases set for March 13 is "Race to Witch Mountain," in which Dwayne Johnson helps two alien kids return to their crashed spaceship. Judging by the previews, the film looks rather crappy, but maybe it's the Rock's bad acting that just scares me too much.

Also opening that same weekend is "Miss March," that brainless comedy about a guy who wakes from a coma and realizes his former girlfriend is now a Playboy bunny. Together with his moroni buddy, he heads out to the mansion to track her down and win her back. The trailer looks pretty terrible, although I admit I may have giggled once when I first saw it.

Horror fans can check out "The Last House on the Left," which I admit doesn't look all that bad at this stage. I can only hope they keep this story of a raped girl whose family seeks revenge against the brutal rapists. I'm down with this as long as it is more intense than "The Unborn" or "The Uninvited."

March 20 looks a lot better! Tony Gilroy returns with "Duplicity," a spy comedy with Clive Owen and Julia Roberts. The trailer for the film looks awesome, and the story at least sounds intriguing as well. I have faith in Gilroy.

Action fans can check out Nicholas Cage's latest apocalyptic thriller "Knowing," while fans of lighter comedy will certainly have a look at "I Love You, Man," with Paul Rudd looking for a male friend. Not sure about "Knowing," but "Man" looks refreshing and hilarious.

I'm looking forward to two more films in March. The first is DreamWorks Animation's "Monsters vs. Aliens," which opens in 3D March 27. The other one is Greg Mottola's "Adventureland." Other flicks to open that weekend are "The Haunting in Connecticut (looks booooooring), "The Accidental Husband" (looks disastrous) and "12 Rounds" (well, it's a WWE action flick with John Cena...).

Another film listed for wide release is "Janky Promoters" with Ice Cube, but I haven't seen any stills, posters or trailers for that one yet. According to IMDb, the film follows two shady concert promoters who get into hot water when their chance to book a superstar rapper goes awry.

That's what March has to offer you folks! Some of these flicks look pretty interesting, while others just look terrible already. If I had to pick two I look forward to most, I'd go with "Watchmen" and "Duplicity." How about you? Sound off below!
