This week's new movie releases - Feb. 27, 2009

It will be a quiet week, as we're only looking at two wide releases this Friday: Andrzej Bartkowiak's "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" with Kristin Kreuk, and Bruce Hendricks' "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience." Let's take a closer look:

STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN-LI

Synopsis: Warriors converge on the streets of Bangkok, preparing for the ultimate battle of terror versus beauty, light versus darkness and good versus evil. That's the official synopsis, anyway, and I think that pretty much sums it up well enough.

First thoughts: People have been throwing plenty of hate at me already because I think the trailer and clips for "Street Fighter" look pretty lame, but hey, I don't care. I simply can't warm up to this film, and come Friday, I'll know whether I was right approaching it with low expectations.

JONAS BROTHERS: THE 3D CONCERT EXPERIENCE

Synopsis: This documentary chronicles the Jonas Brothers' Burning Up tour. It's shot in 3D, and will take viewers behind the stage and straight into the life of the musical stars. Indeed, besides the onstage action, audiences will get a look into the brothers' life outside the concert hall, including exclusive interviews and plenty of other stuff the fans are dying to see.

First thoughts: Not sure this will be an experience, but I admit I'm definitely NOT among the film's target audience. I know I'll probably get a bunch of hate mail for saying this, but as far as I am concerned, the Jonas Bros. can suck it. I am sure the kids will have fun seeing their heroes in 3D though. Yayyyyyyyyyy!

That's great. The lack of new movies increases the chances of Street Fighter to do well. If it does, we might get a real SF movie with Ken and Ryu.
