This week's new movie releases - Feb. 20, 2009
We're only looking at only two wide releases this week: "Fired Up" by Will Gluck and with Nicholas D'Agosto and Eric Christian Olsen, and Tyler Perry's "Madea Goes to Jail." Let's take a closer look:

FIRED UP
Synopsis: Shawn Colfax and Nick Brady, the stars of the Gerald R. Ford High School football team, are dreading the prospect of another summer at football camp. When Nick hatches a scheme for the two to join their school's cheerleaders at cheer camp instead, they find themselves awash in a sea of gorgeous young women. It all goes great until Shawn falls for Carly, the beautiful head cheerleader who sees right through them.
First thoughts: I'm certainly not fired up about this one, especially because I see no appeal whatsoever in a story about two popular guys who have to go to cheer camp to get what they want: women. The trailer looks primitive, the characters look empty and, well, that's pretty much it. We'll see how it eventually plays out...

TYLER PERRY'S MADEA GOES TO JAIL
Synopsis: After a high-speed freeway chase puts Madea in front of the judge, her reprieve is short-lived as anger management issues get the best of her and land her in jail. A gleeful Joe couldn't be happier at Madea's misfortune. But Madea's eccentric family members the Browns rally behind her, lending their special "country" brand of support.
First thoughts: Tyler Perry is back for another round of Madea, and while I admit I smiled a couple of times during the trailer, the film looks just like any other recent Perry film. But hey, if Madea's still got what it takes to be funny, I'm more than willing to give it a shot.
