Eckhart, Jenkins join Depp in 'Rum Diary'
Aaron Eckhart is in talks and Richard Jenkins has signed on to star in Bruce Robinson's "The Rum Diary," based on the book by Hunter S. Thompson.
Johnny Depp is on board in the lead role. Amber Heard joined the project just last week.
Depp is set to play Paul Kemp, a divorced and alcoholic novelist who works for a daily newspaper that’s on its last legs, drinks gallons of rum, and enjoys experimenting with LSD.
Kemp is also involved in a love triangle with Heard and Eckhart, who would play a rich landowner named Sanderson. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins stars as the head of the newspaper Kemp works for.
Eckhart was last seen in "The Dark Knight." He's got "Traveling" and "Battle: Los Angeles" coming up. Jenkins was recently nominated for an Oscar for his stellar performance in "The Visitor."
Folks, this one really boasts an excellent cast! It's one to watch out for.
By the way, Thompson also wrote the book "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," which made it to the big screen with Depp in the role of Raoul Duke.

Most book adaptations see changes in the movie versions. The LSD was mentioned in the plot summary of a CASTING call here:

The love triangle is mentioned in the Hollywood Reporter article, so click on the F***ing link and read it:)))
The love triangle is between Kemp (Depp), Chenault (Heard) and a character named Yeamon, who was said to be played by Josh Hartnett. Jenkins plays Lotterman, the head of the newspaper, that's right. Good choices, btw.
