'The Uninvited' web reviews

In "The Uninvited," two sisters try to convince their father that his current fiancee is not who she pretends to be. Elizabeth Banks, David Strathairn, Emily Browning and Arielle Kebbel star, and here is what some online critics have to say about the horror pic:

• Collider's Brian Orndorf: "'The Uninvited' might appeal to the "Tale of Two Sisters" curious, but even then there's little reason to stay invested in what quickly becomes a grueling 80-minute-long journey into the easily telegraphed and roughly acted."

• CinemaBlend's Katey Rich: "The scares are interspersed in-between these landscape shots, but the film never achieves an actual mood of mystery, and the occasional appearance of ghosts seems more to keep the audience interested than to add to the story."

• Cinematical's Jette Kernion: "'The Uninvited' provides a few shocks and some creepy dream-or-not sequences that are perfect for a date horror movie. However, the structure and dialogue are weak without even being unabashedly cheesy fun like the 3-D remake of My Bloody Valentine."

• Ron Henriques at LatinoReview: "I don't know about you, but I thought the "J-horror" craze was over. Hollywood seems so determined to remake every supernatural horror flick from the land of the rising sun whether it be good or bad."

• The Arrow In the Head at Joblo: "A good time waster if you will. But an equal to its Korean counterpart? Not even close."

• Kevin Carr at FilmSchoolRejects: "While the visuals were cool, this movie was also like 'The Unborn' because it was haphazardly written. There was a certain feel of an early 80s horror movie more than an Asian remake, but that didn’t save some stilted dialogue and goofy characterizations."
