Here's your dose of film news for Feb. 2, 2009:

• Samuel L. Jackson has joined Annette Bening, Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and Shareeka Epps in Rodrigo Garcia's drama "Mother and Child." The film centers on a woman who gave up her daughter many years ago and an African-American woman who is trying to adopt. Principal photography is now under way. (Screen Daily)

• Columbia Pictures is in negotiations to acquire the big-screen rights to Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir "Eat, Pray, Love." Julia Roberts is attached to star, and Ryan Murphy may write and direct the project. "The story focuses on a married woman who seemingly has it all but realizes that she's not living the life she wants." (The Hollywood Reporter)

• Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to Jonathan Tropper's new book "This Is Where I Leave You." Greg Berlanti is attached to direct the project, which tells the story of a father who "dies and requests that his highly dysfunctional and non-religious family sit Shivah for seven days, in his honor." (Variety)

• Javier Fesser's "Camino" was named best film at the 2009 Goya Awards. "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" won best European film, Fesser won best director, Benicio del Toro ("Che") won best actor and Carme Elias took home best actress ("Camino"). Penelope Cruz was named best supporting actress for "Vicky Cristina Barcelona."
