Wow! 'Avatar' bags another $19M Monday

Avatar takes $19 million Monday

James Cameron's "Avatar" doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon, because the sci-fi action flick bagged another impressive $19.4 million Monday. That brings its total gross to $232.1 million.

Sure, a lot of people may be off work this week and all, but this is still a rather solid amount for a pretty regular weekday. "Avatar" ended up scoring an average of $5,619 million per theater at 3,456 locations.

Following at No. 2 with a decent $12 million was "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," which lifted its domestic total to $87.6 million. The first film scored a total domestic gross of $217.3 million.

Still going strong Monday was "Sherlock Holmes," which generated an estimated $11.1 million for a cumulative gross of $73.5 million. "It's Complicated" followed at No. 4 with a daily gross of $4.2 million.

This is quite a good start for the post-holiday week. It will be interesting to see how much these top films will be making this coming weekend. No wide releases will open until Jan. 8, 2010.

That's just insane I think it will reach 385 million domestically as long no competitive movie comes out and knocks it down. It's by far going to be highest grossing movie of 2009 that's for sure.
