There is a slight chance we will be seeing a whole lot of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" films in the near future. The reason: Twisted Pictures is close to take over the franchise and start with a new "Texas" flick.
Twisted Pictures, of course, handles the "Saw" films with Lionsgate, and the production house is close to release the sixth installment already with "Saw VI," due in theaters Oct. 23, 2009.
Variety says Twisted will be developing a 3D "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" flick, with Stephen Susco ("The Grudge") on board to write the script. My guess is we'll be seeing a lot more if it succeeds financially.
The 2003 reboot "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" made $107 million worldwide on a tiny budget. The 2006 prequel "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" performed decently as well.
In my opinion, they're just doing too much rebooting and remaking instead of developing original horror franchises. Okay, I understand these films already have the name and may be easier to market, but still... I'm so craving for something new...
