'Zombieland' rules Friday box office with $9.4M

Ruben Fleischer's hilarious horror comedy "Zombieland" delivered a superb start at the North American box office Friday, grossing $9.4 million from ticket sales at 3,036 locations. That's a solid performance indeed.
Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, the film follows four humans trying to survive in a world taken over by zombies. I absolutely enjoyed it, and I'm glad it's doing this well.
Still going strong Friday was Sony Pictures Animation's 3D adventure "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," which picked up another $3.7 million for a total gross of $69.3 million.
Debuting in third place with a surprisingly decent performance was the "Toy Story/Toy Story 2" double feature, which bagged $3.2 million from ticket sales at only 1,745 locations.
Meanwhile, new entry "The Invention of Lying" finished fourth Friday, earning $2.4 million. Ricky Gervais plays a man who tells the first lie in a world in which every single human being tells only the truth.
Things didn't go as well for Drew Barrymore's directorial debut "Whip It," which is playing at 1,720 locations and only pulled in $1.5 million at No 6. In the film, Ellen Page plays a teenager falling in love with roller derby.
At No. 5, "Surrogates" took home $2.2 million, bringing its domestic total to $21.2 million. Michael Moore's new documentary "Capitalism: A Love Story" opened in seventh place with $1.5 million.
